All About My Hair
I feel that my hair is finally the way I want it: healthy, long, and natural!
From the time I was 15, till about 4 years ago, I was constantly coloring my hair. When I first started coloring it, I was convinced I wanted blonde hair. Well, I had blonde hair for about 3 years and let me tell you, it was not a good look on me!
After blonde, I went brunette, then jet black, then back to brunette, then finally a few years ago I let my natural color come back and I'm so happy I did! I know having your natural hair color isn't for everyone, but it's what works for me and what I feel most confident with! And it's so nice to call my hairstylist and have her fit me in for a trim that takes about twenty minutes!
Now, I am not the type of person who uses a ton of hair products. I don't even own hairspray! I used to spray my hair every time I curled it, thinking I needed it to keep my curls longer. I finally realized that my hair actually holds the curls longer and better, (and doesn't get dirty so quickly) if I don't use hairspray! Again, I know everyone's hair is different and that doesn't work for everyone! My hair naturally has a little wave to it, so I credit that for helping my curls last!
So, here are the products I use: Shampoo, a tiny bit of conditioner, and Moroccan oil. That's it.
Shampoo: I'm currently using the Maple Holistics Botanical Therapy shampoo and I love it! My hair has a tendency to be dry and used to become frizzy throughout the day. This shampoo is extremely moisturizing and makes my hair so soft! I think it is also super great that the Maple Holistics products are all natural (the Botanical Therapy shampoo is made with avocado, organic sesame, sunflower and peach kernel), cruelty free, and it is made right here in the U.S.! (If you would like to try Maple Holistics products, here is a link to get a free sample!)
I only wash my hair every 3-4 days, and I always try to let it air dry before styling (if time permits, of course!)
Conditioner: I've been using the Redken Frizz Dismiss conditioner for awhile now and it works great for me! Like I mentioned before, I only use a tiny bit because I feel like that's really all my hair needs to feel moisturized. I also only put the conditioner on the bottom part of my hair. If I put it too close to the roots, I feel it weighs my hair down making it look flat around my face.
Moroccan oil: The only other product I put in my hair is Moroccan oil! I put this in my hair before applying any heat to it. It makes my hair shiny, smooth, and of course it protects it from heat as well! It's also great for when my hair has static - it really helps tame it!
As far as styling goes, I have been using the same CHI straightener since I was about 17 years old! It works pretty good, so I just keep using it.
When I curl my hair, I use the Hot Tools 24K Gold curling iron with a 1" barrel.
