I am always really jealous of all of you who have built-in bookshelves. Since I don't have that luxury, I had to go out and buy one. I really love the one I found at Target. I love that it is open on the sides and the back, and that it has a rustic look.
Here are some things I kept in mind when styling my bookshelf:
- I didn't want it to be too uniform - I wanted every shelf to be unique! One of the ways I accomplished this was by stacking some of the books on top of each other, and standing others upright.
- I wanted to add meaningful items to my shelves - not just books! These include a teapot that was a gift from my mom, a candle holder I purchased while on vacation with my sisters, and a decorative cross that I received from a friend.
- I wanted to keep it fairly simple and uncluttered. I kept the items on each shelf to a minimum in order to achieve this.
The main thing to remember when styling a bookshelf is that there is no right or wrong way to do so! Just have fun, and make it your own!
