Welcome to Sarah's Got Style!

I'm a 30-something living in a little apartment in Tulsa, OK with my cats, Betty and Bernadette.  I graduated in 2010 from Oklahoma State University with my degree in Design, Housing, & Merchandising.  I currently work as a visual merchandiser.

I started Sarah's Got Style in 2016 as a way to share my love of cute clothes, baking, and makeup.  I hope you enjoy!  If you have any questions for me or ideas just send me a message!

How To Style a Bookshelf

I am always really jealous of all of you who have built-in bookshelves.  Since I don't have that luxury, I had to go out and buy one.  I really love the one I found at Target.  I love that it is open on the sides and the back, and that it has a rustic look.

Here are some things I kept in mind when styling my bookshelf:

  1. I didn't want it to be too uniform - I wanted every shelf to be unique!  One of the ways I accomplished this was by stacking some of the books on top of each other, and standing others upright.
  2. I wanted to add meaningful items to my shelves - not just books!  These include a teapot that was a gift from my mom, a candle holder I purchased while on vacation with my sisters, and a decorative cross that I received from a friend.
  3. I wanted to keep it fairly simple and uncluttered.  I kept the items on each shelf to a minimum in order to achieve this.

The main thing to remember when styling a bookshelf is that there is no right or wrong way to do so!  Just have fun, and make it your own!

My mom gave me this tea pot from Teavana for my 21st birthday.  These vintage books were my great grandma's.  The Audrey print I purchased from River City Trading Post in Jenks, OK.  I found a lot of similar prints here.

Scottie dog bookends from Target - I got these a few years ago and they no longer carry them, but I googled Scottish terrier bookends and there are a lot to choose from!
